WORKUP for
Fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia
should be considered in any patient who complains of chronic widespread pain
for months, and terms such as "I hurt all over" or "it feels as
if I always have the flu" are highly suggestive. The duration of symptoms
is important, because certain infections and other systemic illnesses can
present with widespread pain and fatigue. However, after 2 or 3 months,
infectious or systemic illnesses either disappear or become clinically obvious.
Therefore, the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia should NOT be seriously considered
unless the chronic widespread pain has been present for at least 3 months.
