Various
Neural Manifestation In Lower Limb
Sciatic nerve
damage is a common complication of total hip replacement. It causes global
weakness of the ankle due to the involvement of both its branches (common
peroneal and tibial nerve).
The ankle
jerk is absent due to the involvement of the tibial nerve. Sensory loss is
variable but most commonly occurs around the dorsum of the foot and lateral
aspect of the leg.
Common
peroneal nerve palsy causes weakness of ankle dorsiflexion and eversion.
Tibial nerve
palsy causes weakness of ankle plantar flexion and inversion.
Femoral nerve
palsy causes weakness of hip flexion and knee extension.
Obturator
nerve palsy causes weakness of hip adduction.
